UroShield is a disposable ultrasound device, it is designed to prevent Catheter Associated Urinary Tract infection (CAUTI) a common side effect when using an indwelling catheter. This works be generating a low frequency, low intensity ultrasonic energy throughout the catheter.
UroShield has 2 components, the driver; this is a portable unit that runs from the mains electricity or by battery. The driver provides the power to the clip on actuator and is designed for reuse for up to 2 years. The Actuator is a single use item and is recommended to be replaced alongside the catheter or every 30 days.
How does UroShield work?
Surface Acoustic Waves are generated by the clip on actuator, these create an acoustic shield on the surface of the catheter that interferes with the bacteria attaching to the catheter and therefore forming the bacterial biofilm that will cause a problematic infection.
As a result it is very possible that the use of antibiotics will be dramatically reduced if not eliminated all together.
